 Featuring Advanced Septic Systems

The "Elgin MSF" septic system is a type of advanced wastewater treatment and dispersal system manufactured by Eljen Corporation. It's designed to be a more efficient and often smaller-footprint alternative to traditional gravel-and-pipe leach fields.

Here's a breakdown of what makes the Eljen MSF system stand out from the rest:

   * Two-Stage Bio-Matt™ Pre-Treatment:

This is a core feature. Unlike some systems that rely solely on the septic tank for primary treatment, Eljen Mantis units incorporate a unique design with "Filter Support Modules" (FSMs) wrapped in geotextile fabric.

   * Stage 1 (within the FSMs):

Septic tank effluent (liquid waste) flows into a perforated pipe within the Mantis unit and then migrates through these FSMs. Open air channels within the modules promote the growth of aerobic bacteria on the Bio-Matt™ fabric. This biological growth actively filters and treats the effluent, keeping much of the biological growth off the native soil.

   * Stage 2 (in the specified sand):

The partially treated effluent then drips into a layer of "Specified Sand" that surrounds the Mantis units. This sand layer continues the treatment process, supporting unsaturated flow into the native soil.

 * 3-D Mini-Trenches™:

The design of the FSMs creates these "mini-trenches" that maximize the surface area for effluent to interact with the filtering fabric and air. This increases the system's efficiency in a smaller area.

 * Protection of Native Soil:

By keeping the majority of the biological growth and filtering process within the Mantis units and specified sand, the system aims to protect the long-term acceptance rate of the native soil, preventing clogging that can lead to system failure in traditional leach fields.

 * Smaller Footprint:

One of the most significant benefits is that Mantis systems often require a smaller absorption area compared to conventional stone and pipe systems. This is crucial for properties with limited space, difficult soil conditions, or challenging topography.

 * Improved Effluent Quality:

The two-stage treatment process produces higher quality effluent (cleaner water) before it reaches the native soil, which is better for the environment and can extend the life of the soil absorption area.

 * Increased Performance and Reliability:

The design aims for more consistent and reliable long-term performance due to the pre-treatment and protected soil interface.

 * Design Flexibility:

The modular nature can offer more flexibility in design and installation for various site conditions.

 * Made from Recycled Materials:

Eljen products incorporate recycled materials, which can be an environmental benefit.
